Fatboy Slim "Demons" (f. Macy Gray)

Piano gospel has a distinct sound.

So does Macy Gray.

So does pretty much everything Fatboy Slim has produced.

That makes this closer to Slim's Halfway Between the Gutter and the Stars, a terrific, sonically-satisfying album, a seminal achievement of the early-electronic dance music era.

The piano sample is lifted from a Bill Withers war-protest song but feels at home in this tale of lost love and a need to belong.

Slim has made far more catchy, radio-friendly songs, but few of the had the gotta-listen-to-that-again value of "Demons."
